  ROCKNET MEETING MINUTES 

May 13, 2004 

The Board met at 7:32 in the City Manager's Conference Room.

Present were Bob Ekman, Roald Schrack, Dean Fiala, Ben Creitz, Jim Beller, Stan Klein, Jonathan Walker, Betsy Robbins, and Mike Cannon

1. There was a discussion of the Science Fair. Rocknet was represented by a demonstration of Wi-Fi equipment. There were about 2000 attendees at the fair that was held at Montgomery College.

2. Betsy reported that she attended a conference of Web Administrators in Texas were she learned of practices at other municipal web sites. She found that was widespread use of content management systems and other innovations of e-government. The city website has new environmental CIP projects. 43 city forms are being prepared for PDF presentations. For the first time the city posted budget concerns expressed at the city public hearings, adding the city response in each case. Channel 11 (the city cable channel) is going to run a short instructional program on how to use the city website.

3. Rocknet had an average of 499 visits per day in April ( 481 in February, 579 in March ). A page on Wireless links was revised.

4. In plans for the coming year, Mike Cannon suggested we might be interested in setting up a web camera to record the progress of the construction of the Town Center. Jonathan Walker expressed an interest in helping on the project.

 Mike Cannon described a set of conduits being installed as part of the Town Center that will allow later installation of transmission lines for a Wi-Fi system
