ROCKNET MEETING MINUTES January 9, 2003 The meeting was held in the City Manager's Conference room at City Hall. The meeting convened at 7:35 pm. Present: Bob Ekman, Betsy Robbins, Stan Klein, Jim Beller, Brian Pierce, Mike Cannon, Roald Schrack. 1) The minutes of the meeting of December 12, 2002 were accepted. 2) Betsy Robbins reported on the City website. Visitors were 1,828 per day. The new site design seems to be effective in helping visitors find the material they are looking for. New features are attracting use - 75 order forms for "Portrait of a City" were downloaded. Two new features for the site are being planned and will be implemented upon approval by Mayor and Council. Those not able to watch the city functions broadcast on cable channel 11 will soon be able to watch them on the city website. Material being broadcast on channel 11 will be simultaneously available by live streaming on the website using the Microsoft Media Player. The second innovation will be the availability of the city Graphical Information System database on the web site. Viewers will be able to see the city map with overlays of various data such as house values, ownership, water lines, etc, etc. 3) There were 331 visitors per day to the Rocknet web site. Bob Ekman reported on progress in setting up the new server. Users will need a "secure FTP" to access the new server. He reported problems in the setup of the mail server system, Lyris 5, and indicated he might switch to Lyris 6.1 which has just been released. There was extensive discussion of options that would be available for listserve operation. 4) New Business: Mike Cannon reports that the city is developing a mobile training system that can be moved to different locations utilizing wi-fi networking. The students would use wi-fi equipped laptops. Any convenient room, large enough to accommodate a class could then be quickly setup to serve as a computer training area. The meeting adjourned at 9:20 pm Respectfully submitted, Roald A. Schrack 13 Farsta Ct. Rockville, MD 20850 voice: 301-279-7017 fax: 301-279-8889
