ROCKNET MEETING MINUTES
February 14, 2002
The meeting convened in the Boards and Commissions room at 7:30 pm.
In attendance were: Jim Beller, Bob Ekman, Betsy Robbins, Mike Cannon,
Roald Schrack
1. Minutes of previous meeting (January 10) accepted.
2. On the Rockville site: Rock Enroll now does 40% of registrations for
summer camps. Icons to designate categories are very popular. Feedback from
users is very favorable. Climbing Gym web pages posted. Anonymous
complaint form (WRITE) available to report neighborhood problems to the
police.
3. Minor changes in RockNet content and links. Statistics not available yet
as a suitable program not acquired. Discussion of possible budget request:
* Search for a new listserve with archiving capability is probably done
but will cost.
* New server has arrived . Transfer of system will take awhile.
* Will put new listserve and a calendar program on the new server.
* Streaming video was discussed as a possible new feature.
* Intellectual property rights might be a problem in the presentation of
video of local events.
4. There was extended discussion of the content of a budget message to be
presented to the Mayor and Council. Since Rocknet monies are considered a
special project of the IT department, any funds obtained in a fiscal year
that at are not expended in that year can be carried over to the following
year. Since most of the money obtained 2 years ago has now been largely
spent, it was decided to ask for a couple of thousand in anticipation of
expenses discussed in 3.
