ROCKNET MEETING MINUTES June 14, 2001 Meeting convened at the City Manager's Conference Room, Rockville City Hall at 7:40 PM In attendance: Bob Ekman bob.ekman@att.com Jim Beller jwbeller@mindspring.com Timothy Piety tpiety@btg.com Ben Pauwels pauwelsb@msn.com Mike Cannon mcannon@ci.rockville.md.us Betsy Robbins brobbins@ci.rockville.md.us Roald Schrack rschrack@cpcug.org 1) Acceptance of Minutes of April and May. 2) Nomination and unanimous election of Jim Beller as Treasurer. 3) Bob Ekman discussed the modification of NTList to permit a larger number of listserves. 4) Betsy reported on stats for May: average daily hits for City site=1480, Rocknet=308. Modifications of City site: New Skate Park page, provides permission document; Continuous updating of City Center Master Plan. Plans for City Hall intranet. Bob Ekman reported changes in progress on science day presentation. 5) Jim Beller reported on progress on purchase of Digital Camera. Best insurance policy available from Penn Camera. After extensive discussion of merits and available funds it was decided to authorize the purchase of the Sony MVC92 or 87 dependent on relative price and resolution. 6) There was an extended discussion of virtual hosting. Tim Piety explained the complex negotiations required. The board took a favorable view and suggested that the sites for Potomac woods and Twinbrook be pursued. 7) Mike brought up the idea that Rocknet be a portal to Rocknet associated sites. This would entail the launching of a spider program to collect links and the subsequent development of an index of collected links. 8) There was a brief discussion of the possibility of a wireless network that would serve the area of the city. 9) Jim Beller suggested that the development of a template could facilitate the development of web sites for civic associations, etc similar to the system available through e-neighbors. It was also suggested that we make an effort to utilize high school students, offering them a way to gain community service credits by assisting in the production of web sites. 10) Considering the interest in the Town Center Master Plan there was a discussion on providing some method for Rocknet to play a role in promoting citizen involvement. It was concluded that expanding the role of the Town Center interest group listserve was the best way to go. Bob Ekman discussed the possibility of an automatic sign up form.
