                     ROCKNET MEETING MINUTES

                         January 11, 2001

Meeting convened at the City Manager's Conference Room, Rockville City Hall
at 7:40 PM

In attendance: Bob Ekman, Betsy Robbins, Stan Klein, Brian Pierce, Jim Beller,
Mike Cannon, Nancy Scibek

1) Minutes of last meeting accepted.

2) Betsy reported on the City's web site:
   a. Still having problems with the daily web hit logging. It will stop
incrementing the daily log file and just pile up the records in one file.
   b. Presented to RockNet a CD with all the 2000 log files.
   c. Working on building the City's internal Intranet.
   d. Budget information and financial report are being posted.
   e. Twinbrook recreation center virtual tour is being developed.

3) Bob reported on RockNet's web site:
   a. The King Farm citizen association web pages were added, along with a
      maintenance account.
   b. We had some form of network problems over the past weekend. Traceroute
indicated problems in the CapuNet segment of the network. The problems
seem to clear up on Monday.

4) Security issues are still un-addressed, but we don't have any known problems.
   Our vulnerabilities are limited.

5) The City budget process requires input from RockNet. Bob will submit a letter
to Mike, essentially asking for the same level of support as in the FY 2001
   budget.

6) The group developed a list of activities for this calendar year, as follows.
   a. Conduct education for citizens on web page authoring and related
      tools and technology.
   b. Redesign the RockNet web site. The City is planning to redesign theirs.
   c. Acquire and install security tools (Black Ice).
   d. Conduct a security audit.
   e. Revive the calendar process. Perhaps add a self serve tool.
   f. Acquire a digital camera for citizen groups to borrow. Will help in
posting more pictures from around the city. We know pictures bring
traffic. The camera needs to be simple to use and use standard floppy
      diskettes.
   g. Consider posting coupons for City activities and businesses.
   h. Set up a Rockville Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ).
   i. Consider setting up an "Ask Mr. Rockville".
   j. Set up web based archiving for the NTList email list server.

7) The April 12 meeting will be moved to April 5.

The meeting adjourned at 9:40 pm
