PARTICIPATION: I will use the following ways to reach the people under 40:

  • Married group: PTSA in elementary schools, junior high schools, school fairs and churches.
  • Single group: any golf club recreation center and health club.

I personally will visit at least 100 houses in each of our twelve election districts and listen to what the residents have to say. My decisions will come from these voices. I believe after I talk to 1 ,000 residents, I will know what the residents want. You need to build the trust with the people. Without trust, there are no solutions. To reach diverse ethnic minorities, I will go to different ethnic organizations and churches to get their feedback.

NEIGHBORHOODS: One thing we have is a new transportation chief in the City of Rockville. We should be patient, and give Mr. Marcus more time to work out some of the problems with Mr. Stacy Wood in the Community Planning & Development Service Department. For more information, please read the article reported by Manju Subramanya on 8-18-99, p. A-16 of the Gazette. The following are my recommendations:

  • Incentives to take public transportation, Metrorail, Metrobus, ride-On Bus, and MARC Rail.
  • City of Rockville & Montgomery County should sit down and discuss the problems and try to solve some of the existing problems.
  • Listen to the expert's opinions.
  • Governmental resources are limited; community resources should be brought in.

HOUSING: We need to work on Master Plan to allow more multiple dwelling units. We need incentives for developers to build affordable housing. With respect to the New Housing issue, I believe the Mayor and City Council have done a good job.

We should give them credit. If you need more information, please read the article on p. A-4, 8-4-99, reported by Manju Subramanya. " Moderately Priced Dwelling Unit Program takes off after nine years." in the Gazette.

In the 50 years of existing housing, I recommend a low interest rate (4-5), % should be given for renovation of properties in designated areas. This program would open to the public, handy men, and investor, also, If you have time, please visit 725 Anderson Ave., you will see 2 new completely renovated houses.
